Graduation June 7, 2017 We had a beautiful ceremony on Wednesday evening, June 7, in the theater at American Memorial Park Museum to honor our four graduating eighth grade students. Our 2017 graduating students were Jasmine Frink, Mia Hirsh, Samantha Liske-Clark, and Beckham Richards. Each of them gave a reflection presentation about their recent trip to Europe, followed by a short individual speech that highlighted their academic opinions and memories. We are proud of their accomplishments! |

Science Fair March 30, 2017 We scheduled our own Science Fair this year, inviting students to search their curiosity to develop a science question that the universe needed answering. Instead of having the science fair run as a competition, we redesigned it to be a meeting of minds between our students, their work, and real scientists from the Saipan community. Our special thanks goes out to three scientists who donated their evening to meet with our students: Dr. Emma Murray, a biology instructor at NMC, Kevin Donmoyer from the Department of Fish and Wildlife, and Joel Phair, a pharmacist at PHI. |

Roman Rudnytsky Presentation
March 14, 2017 Classical pianist, Roman Rudnytsky, met with our students last Tuesday. He played musical pieces by Schumann and Haydn for the entire school, which gathered in the middle school room. He also played an American selection from the mid-1800s, which showed his flexibility. He answered questions about his playing and his background in music. A graduate of the Julliard School in New York, he also studied at the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore, Maryland and took master classes in Austria and Italy. We learned that he memorizes the music he plays, which means he can play hours’ worth of music at will. |

Managaha Trip March 9-10, 2017 Our annual trip to Managaha was beautiful! Our students spent two days as a school learning on the uninhabited island of Managaha. They created sand art, beading, and pictures from natural items. They conducted a digital scavenger hunt, were introduced to ukulele performance, participated in cooperative games, and listened to a scientist discuss sea turtles and sea life. On Thursday night, we made smores around a bonfire and sang songs together. There was free time to play, read, and swim. Students camped overnight with the WPS staff and parents, and had the option of remaining for a second night of camping at their discretion. The weather was beautiful this year, which added to the good memories. |

Scripps National Spelling Bee February 3, 2017 Our winner for the school-wide Spelling Bee was Samantha. This is the third year in a row that she won the spelling bee. Wow! She will advance to the regional spelling bee on Guam, and we hope that she will be able to move on to the national level in Washington DC. Dane was our runner up, and the other students who participated were Eubin, Zion, Jasper, and Dylan. Congratulations to all for participation in front of the entire school. |

Annual Wine and Tapas Auction (and the work leading up to it) January 27, 2017 Our seventh annual Wine and Tapis event was held on Friday, January 27 at the Hyatt Hotel beginning at 6:00 pm. Each of our classrooms played an integral part in the auction by creating something that could be auctioned off to support the school. The pictures here tell the story of our preparations. The live auction included a skydiving adventure and our own art teacher's surfboard. Ms. Nadia painted her surfboard and donated it to support our school. Thank you to all the Saipan community who attended. |

International Peace Day: September 21, 2016 Our observance of International Peace Day began with Ms. Nadia's leadership, welcoming all to view Google Doodles that represented peace. In addition to the art display, Ms. JoAnn's middle school students created a rockin' video, Mr. Nick's class made a few oral presentations, and there were other displays of student work. The program ended with everyone gathering around the Peace Pole in our yard for a minute of silence and thoughtful focus on peace in the world. |

The International Day of Peace is observed around the world each year on September 21st. Established in 1981 by a unanimous United Nations resolution, the General Assembly has declared this as a day devoted to "commemorating and strengthening the ideals of peace both within and among all nations and peoples."

First Day of School:
August 10, 2016 Do you remember your parents taking a picture of you on the first day of school? You would have been wearing new school clothes and a new smile, ready to begin a brand new year. We created a video clip of our students arriving to school on the first day and snapped a quick photo of them, and sometimes of our parents too. |
